Federal regulations prohibit passengers to use cell phones while an aircraft is in flight. But that Wi-Fi is available on more and more planes, some passengers found they are able to make phone calls using VoIP. While many airlines in other countries offer cell phone service in flight, a bill to Congress intended to prohibit all communication in flight voice. Meanwhile, many airline companies that offer Wi-Fi claim to block phone calls on the Internet, due to concerns about competition for bandwidth, and the cabin noise levels. Despite this prohibition supposed, many passengers find that Skype and other Internet telephony services now work very well on many flights.

Congress passes Whether a bill prohibiting any use in the phone booth, or companies make a concerted attempt to enforce their existing policies remain to be seen. But for now, passengers who take advantage of their ability to make phone calls over the Internet in the air did not seem to have problems.
