A new bill approved by the Senate this week would significantly improve the quality of service offered to 911 voice subscribers on telephone service IP offering VoIP providers the same type of access to infrastructure that 911 call traditional telephone service providers have.
911 is not new and enhanced VoIP providers already provide these services to the vast majority of their subscribers. However, in a small percentage of cases of a 911 is a VoIP subscriber call can be routed to a location other than their local emergency department services.
Vonage is estimated that over 98% of their current subscribers already 911 improved access, but the new legislation permits make it easier for Vonage and other VoIP service providers to provide a service that is comparable and in many ways better than the standard telephone service.
We see this as a great victory for both VoIP providers and their subscribers as it will ensure that the growing number of consumers using VoIP services will always have the best emergency services available .
