Sometimes, in May or June, an employee access code of Wells Fargo Bank was used to steal thousands of Social security numbers, birth dates, addresses, driver's license numbers and, in some cases, credit card numbers. Only a small number of people affected were in fact customers of Wells Fargo.

Wells Fargo sent letters to most of those affected to inform them of the breach and offer them a one-year subscription to Identity Guard. The bank has no contact information for about 2,400 of the victims, and is currently find addresses to inform those people also.
