Approximately 3400 students and alumni of the Connecticut State University system were exposed to potential identity theft when a laptop containing their personal information, including names and social security numbers, was stolen from a supplier of school.

The computer has a protection password although files, including data on sensitive students are not encrypted in any way. The breach affected some students who attended Central, Eastern, Southern and Western Connecticut University between September 2001 and December 2004.
