auction site on the popular US based eBay announced this week that hackers had breached records about 10.8 million users of its Korean website. The incident occurred sometime in late February.
In collaboration with local authorities to verify the facts relating to the infringement, eBay has found that it is very unlikely that the card or paying credit sensitive information was exposed in the breach, although the names, site numbers and other identification information was finally exposed.
The identity of the perpetrators is not currently known, but police believe it was left outside of Korea.
This violation certainly highlights the potential risks of major attacks of large-scale pirates on major websites.
