Q :? Does [Carbonite] as backup programs and applications in a form which would allow them to be installed and run without the hassle of rebuilding pc in an accident
A: default Carbonite backs up your data and files in the Documents and Settings folder or folder on your Windows PC user, as you have XP or Vista. There is no backup disk image. You can manually set the backup software to include program files, system files and temporary files. Some applications could be reinstalled simply restore from the site of Carbonite.
However, Windows blocks certain files in operation system would be needed to restore the operating system and applications. Backing up and restoring these files, such as registry would require other programs or scripts to be run to extract these locked files for backup. Of course, you need to load a new operating system on the computer and the Carbonite program before you can access and download the files that were backed up on your Carbonite account.
