Secretary of State Colin Powell, former quarterback of the Dallas Cowboys Troy Aikman and potentially millions of other Americans are vulnerable identity thieves thanks to the provincial and local government websites according to a recent Washington post investigation.
The Post revealed that many government websites provide access to public documents that contain highly sensitive personal information such as social security numbers, birthdays and addresses. Information Powell and Aikman was recovered from the local government sites in Virginia and Texas, respectively, as a way to illustrate how easy it is to access this personal information through the web. Needless to say, the accessibility of such information could make millions of Americans vulnerable to identity theft.
