The Boston Herald reported that the personal information of nearly 500 elderly can Wellesley College have been compromised this month.
Having beaten the flu at a local health clinic last fall the personal information of about 480 students was sent to a regional office of health insurance for treatment. When an envelope arrived, he was open and personal information, including Social Security numbers, addresses and dates of birth, was gone.
All affected students are being informed by the clinic and the USPS has launched an investigation to determine whether the loss of data was caused by identity thieves or mechanical failure in the processing the envelope.
