The Office of United States Government Accountability recently published an information security report indicating that 24 major agencies US, 70% of sensitive information on laptops and mobile computers screeds was clear from last September. For the purposes of this report, sensitive data includes personal medical records, other personal information, application data of the law and basic documents for internal security.
According to the report, "Although all agencies have initiated efforts to deploy encryption technologies, none had documented comprehensive plans to guide encryption implementation activities. As a result, federal information may remain at increased risk of unauthorized disclosure, loss and modification. "The report also notes that the Federal Act on the management of information security (FISMA) requires organizations to protect their data, as well as other laws. The White House Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has been recommended that agencies encrypt all sensitive data on laptops since 2006. Many organizations have failed to do, and many organizations have reported missing or stolen laptops .
Representative Bennie Thompson and Representative Zoe Lofgren, who are both members of the House of Representatives Committee on Homeland Security of the United States, expressed disappointment with US encryption efforts of the agency when the report GAO was released Monday. Lofgren, a California Democrat, said that federal agencies "are far behind the private sector" as regards the protection and data encryption.
