Now, the popular social network is taking very proactive steps on their own to protect their users by establishing a set of standards of protection with the attorneys general of 49 states and the District of Columbia.

The new privacy and protection measures are intended to help protect Facebook users, especially minors, exposing their personal information to strangers. In addition, Facebook will also participate in a working group of Internet security nationwide as part of the agreement with the majority of US states.

Texas was the only state that did not participate in the plan. It is not surprising that Texas also failed to make a similar agreement with MySpace earlier this year. Facebook Chief Privacy Officer Chris Kelly, noted that the company is in an ongoing dialogue with Texas.
