A judge in Nebraska ruled this week that Vonage will not have to pay a fee which is levied against providers traditional telephony services.
Nebraska officials tried to force Vonage to pay in phone service providers Universal State Fund. traditional services are required to pay into the fund and the cost is generally passed directly to the consumer . product are used to finance the expansion of telephone lines in rural areas of the state.
Because Vonage is a telephone based service that uses the traditional telephone infrastructure, the court held that they are not required to pay additional staff Public Utilities Commission fees. Nebraska until April 2, 2008 to decide whether they will appeal the court decision.
