A laptop and flash drive with about 4,800 personnel files, including name, the social security number and information about health, were stolen from the healthcare University Hospital in Utah at the end February. Impacted patients began receiving notification letters this week.
Hospital officials said the data was password protected and it is unlikely that the criminals would be able to access personal information. The hospital is currently reviewing their security policies to help prevent future data breaches. Employees will no longer be able to upload personal patient data on laptops.
The hospital will provide credit report monitoring services for consumers affected by the data breach.
